FAQs

Are you a real professional? Is this your full time job?
Yup, it’s my 9-5. Or more accurately, it’s my 24/7-365. I live and breathe this stuff, occasionally to the detriment of my personal life.

What kind of cameras do you use? Do you shoot all digital?
Back in the days when photographers shot film I had a strong preference for Pentax, and Mamiya if I was shooting medium format. Now I’m all digital and shoot Canon. I like my lenses big, fast and without zoom rings please.

How would you describe your photography?
Geez…that’s a question that’s both easy and tough to answer. I really don’t like terms like “candid” and “photojournalistic” even though they do describe my approach pretty well. I love making photos that tell a story. I love making photos that capture emotion. I love making photos that are awesome.

How do you dress at a wedding?
No worries, I won’t show up wearing a tuxedo.

Do you require a meal during the reception?
Again, no worries. I’m pretty self sufficient and will make sure I keep myself fed and watered.

Will we get a disc with digital files so we can make prints or post on Facebook?
Yes! You’ll receive all your finished photos on disc with full rights for personal use. That disc will even have a folder of photos resized specifically for Facebook to make status updating easy.

Is it better to do all our formal photos before the ceremony?
Unless you have strong feelings to the contrary I always suggest doing photos before the ceremony. First Looks are always awesome – yes, grooms almost always cry – and having all the formal stuff done ahead of time means no keeping your guests waiting afterwards.

What is your policy on guests taking pictures?
It’s a wedding, people have cameras, no big deal. The only time I might flex a little muscle is during the family photos, and then only because people – much like crows and ravens – are easily distracted by shiny things. If Uncle Ed is shooting behind me and to the left then I can guarantee someone will be looking at his camera when they should be looking at mine. Aside from that, the more the merrier as far as I’m concerned.
